1. Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), has resigned from his position. Appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari seven years ago, Abubakar submitted his resignation following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Saturday.
2. Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has begun implementing the N70,000 minimum wage approved by the Federal Government. The governor has started disbursing the new minimum wage to state employees from August 2024, and has assured that local government workers will begin receiving the increased salary in September.
3. Murtala Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the recent Kogi State governorship election, condemned the attack he suffered on Friday. The attack occurred as he was leaving the Supreme Court. In a statement, Ajaka called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other relevant security agencies to thoroughly investigate the assault on him and his supporters by Bashiru Gegu and his associates.
4. The Imo State Police Command has apprehended five individuals suspected of being involved in a kidnapping ring that has been terrorizing residents in Obinze, Avu, and surrounding areas. This syndicate was also responsible for the abduction of a 26-year-old woman from her home in Obinze, Owerri West local government area.
5. Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has dismissed rumors suggesting he plans to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC). 6. The Police have confirmed that no ransom was paid for the release of the 20 medical students kidnapped in Benue. Force Police Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi stated, “Despite circulating rumors and unverified reports of a ransom payment, no money was exchanged. The students were rescued through a tactical and professional operation.”
7. As part of a campaign against public indecency, the Lagos State government has detained six individuals caught urinating on a rail track near the Nigeria Army Shopping Complex, Arena, Oshodi. 8. On Friday, Nasarawa State Police operatives arrested Hauwa Sani for hiding 124 rounds of anti-craft ammunition in a gallon of palm oil. Sani was apprehended alongside a two-year-old child. 9. Sokoto State Police operatives have taken suspects into custody in connection with the protest in Sabon Birni over the death of the kidnapped District Head, Isa Muhammad Bawa. The deputy public relations officer of the Command, ASP Isah Mohammed, provided details in a statement issued in Sokoto.
10. The United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC) has called for the immediate and unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as well as all political prisoners. The council also demanded an end to all unlawful, secret, and extrajudicial arrests, detentions, and killings in the country.
