1. Six people were killed on Sunday as tensions flared in the Julius Berger area of Abuja during a violent clash between members of the El Zakzaky movement, also known as Shiites, and officers from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command. Among the dead were two police officers, and several others sustained gunshot wounds.

2. Over the weekend, the Federal Government took steps to combat malaria by appointing Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, along with prominent businessman Femi Otedola and renowned banker Tony Elumelu, to spearhead new efforts aimed at eradicating the disease in Nigeria.

Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, recently reinstated, has warned that he will expose certain wrongdoings of his former boss, Governor Godwin Obaseki, if the governor’s associates continue to insult him. 8. The Emir of Ningi in Bauchi State, Alhaji Yunusa Muhammadu Danyaya, passed away on Sunday at the age of 88. He reportedly died on Sunday morning at the Expert Alliance Hospital in Kano, just two days after returning from a medical trip to Saudi Arabia.

9. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has seized two containers holding 1,596 cartons of codeine-based syrup, totaling 319,200 bottles of the opioid, valued at N2.234 billion on the streets, at the Tin Can seaport in Lagos.

10. The Chairman of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Bayelsa State Chapter, Ipigansi Ogoniba, announced on Sunday that one person has been confirmed dead in another boat accident in the state. Ogoniba stated that, while other passengers were rescued by concerned locals, one individual drowned due to the rising water levels in the area.
