1. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has decided to consult further on the minimum wage issue before submitting an Executive Bill to the National Assembly. This decision was made yesterday during a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, where he received the Tripartite Committee report from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume.
2. A Supplementary Appropriation Bill, which includes a request for a new presidential jet, may be submitted to the National Assembly tomorrow. The cost of the jet will be covered in the supplementary appropriation, with three aircraft from the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF) being sold to offset the expense.
3. The leadership crisis within the Labour Party (LP) intensified on Tuesday as its National Transition Committee (LPNTC) demanded the resignation of national chairman Julius Abure. Labour leaders, who attended the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja, asserted that Abure’s and other NWC members’ tenures would end by the end of the month.
4. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called for urgent measures to revive the university system, warning of its imminent collapse due to the government’s failure to address unresolved issues with the union.
5. The governors of Nigeria’s 36 states have scheduled a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the proposed new minimum wage. Halima Ahmed, Acting Director on Media and Public Affairs of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), announced that the meeting will take place at 7 pm in Abuja.
6. The Federal Government declared on Tuesday that there has been no importation of dirty fuel into Nigeria, contradicting a recent claim by an official of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. This was announced after a meeting with oil marketers and local crude oil refiners in Abuja, where they discussed refined product pricing, competition issues, and the importation of domestically produced products.
7. The Ogun State Police Command announced plans to prosecute Lekan Akinyemi, who was arrested for allegedly exhuming and beheading a corpse for ritual purposes in the Itoko area of Abeokuta, the state capital. The suspect was arrested on Monday after a resident reported suspicious activities around his father’s grave.
8. Bandits launched another attack on Danbaza community in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, kidnapping 47 people. According to resident Mustapha Danbaza, 11 members of one family were among those abducted during the attack.
9. President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to establish a committee to oversee the cholera emergency operation center managed by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). This was revealed by the Minister of Health, Dr. Ali Pate, during a briefing with State House correspondents after the council meeting on Tuesday.
10. The Naira appreciated in the parallel market on Tuesday, rising to N1,500 per dollar from N1,505 per dollar on Monday. However, it depreciated slightly to N1,500.79 per dollar in the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM).
