1. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has instructed leaders of its 54 affiliate unions to accompany President Joe Ajaero to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) headquarters today over allegations of terrorism financing and other violations. This directive was issued in a circular signed by NLC General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, and distributed to all affiliate unions, state chapters, and national officers.
2. The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have scheduled a meeting for September 6 to continue negotiations regarding unresolved issues raised by university lecturers. Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, disclosed this after a closed-door session with ASUU’s leadership, led by President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke.
3. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to resubmit a revised Whistleblowing Bill to the National Assembly for consideration, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, revealed on Wednesday. The Federal Government has reportedly recovered N83 billion, $609 million, and 5.5 million euros since the whistleblowing policy was introduced in 2017.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has instructed all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to finalize the mandatory verification and linkage of SIM cards to National Identification Numbers (NINs) by September 14, 2024. This was confirmed in a statement by Reuben Muoka, Director of Public Affairs at NCC.
5. Flooding has claimed the lives of 179 individuals across 15 states and displaced 208,655 others in 22 states this year, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). The agency, in its 2024 Flood Updates released on Wednesday, also reported the destruction of 107,652 hectares of farmland and 80,049 houses.
6. Members of the proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiites, have accused the police of killing four of their members and taking their bodies following a clash near Wuse Market, Abuja, on Sunday. IMN Secretary of the Academic Forum, Ibrahim Abdullahi Musa, denied allegations of police killings and claimed that three members were killed at Wuse Market and one at Mabushi.
7. Two people were killed on Tuesday when a truck driving against traffic collided with another truck along the Sagamu-Benin Expressway in Ogun State. A traffic official revealed on Wednesday that one of the victims had been speeding in the wrong direction, leading to the fatal crash.
8. The Lagos State Police Command has rescued a 25-year-old man who was abducted on Tuesday in the Oke Moro, Ishashi area of the state. On Wednesday, it was reported that three suspects, Edem Chucks, Oluwatobi Adeniji, and Emmanuel Ebere, were arrested by officers from the Ishashi Police Division in connection with the abduction.
9. The Osun State Command of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps announced on Wednesday that it has launched an investigation into the abduction of a five-month-old baby from a farm in Agbeye town. The child was reportedly left under a tree by the mother, who had gone to collect firewood, only to return and find the baby missing.
10. Sixteen people were burned to death in a fatal auto accident at Ajue community, along the Ore-Ondo highway in Ondo State. On Wednesday, it was reported that three others were seriously injured, while two people escaped without harm.
