1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, announced this in a statement on Saturday, stating that the broadcast will take place at 7 am.

2. The Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusuf Lawal, confirmed on Saturday that four people were killed along Baga Road in Maiduguri during the nationwide #EndBadGovernment protest. He stated that Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protestors and used explosives to kill four people at a filling station on Thursday.

3. Several people are feared dead and others injured following clashes between hoodlums and security operatives in Kano. The worst-hit areas include Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal, and Unguwa Uku in Tarauni Local Government.

4. The leadership of organized labour warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces on Saturday to stop what it called a “massacre” of protesters participating in nationwide demonstrations against hunger.

5. Amnesty International Nigeria, a leading human rights group, reported that over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of demonstrations against hardship in the country.

 

6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. In a statement on Saturday, Atiku questioned the professionalism of the security forces in handling the ongoing demonstrations.

7. Organizers and supporters of the ongoing protests have set up pages to raise over N4bn through the online crowdfunding platform GoFundMe. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been set as the goal through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.

8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when gunmen reportedly shot dead Hyginus Ohazurike, the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area. Six village heads from the community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.

9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh, stated that his officers were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. A viral video had claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in Kubwa.
