1. The governors of the 36 states have rejected the N60,000 minimum wage proposed by the federal government, according to a statement on Friday by Hajiya Halimah Salihu Ahmed, Director of Media and Public Affairs for the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF).
2. On Friday, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the official residence of the Vice President, which had been underfunded since 2010. Tinubu emphasized his administration’s focus on delivering on promises made to Nigerians rather than dwelling on past administrations’ failures.
3. A Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the final forfeiture of all assets of NOK University, a private institution in Kaduna State, to the Federal Government. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ruled on Friday that the university’s promoter, Anthony Hassan, failed to convincingly prove that the assets were not acquired with proceeds of crime.
4. At least seven people were killed in a new attack by bandits on communities in Shiroro LGA of Niger State. On Friday, it was reported that victims Kabiru Salihu and Abubakar Karaga were beheaded by the suspected insurgents.
5. Organized labour has increased its demand for the new minimum wage to N250,000. TUC President Festus Osifo disclosed this to journalists on Friday night at the National Minimum Wage Tripartite Committee meeting held at Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja.
6. Justice Thomas Okosu of the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal imposed a N150 million fine on Multichoice Nigeria. On Friday, Okosu, leading a three-man panel, also ordered Multichoice to provide one-month free subscription on its DStv and GOtv platforms.
7. Nigeria’s inflation rate is predicted to stabilize at 14 percent by 2029, signaling a potential end to the current upward trend, according to the latest data from the International Monetary Fund. This comes amid concerns over the rising inflation rate, which stood at 33.69 percent in April 2024, deviating from the IMF’s prediction of 24.6 percent for the year.
8. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested 15 suspected Internet fraudsters in separate operations in Abuja and Rivers State. The agency disclosed this in statements posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.
9. The Delta State Police Command confirmed the arrest of armed robbers who had been terrorizing various parts of the state. The Command also reported the recovery of weapons used by the suspects in their illegal activities.
10. Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), stated that Nigerians should not complain about the current hardship after ignoring his advice and voting for President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last general election.
