1. Organized Labour on Saturday criticized state governors, accusing them of negotiating the new minimum wage in bad faith. They demanded full implementation of the new wage agreement and called for the resignation of any governors unable to comply.
2. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested 127 suspected internet fraudsters during a “Yahoo Party” in Akure, Ondo State. The arrests took place early Saturday morning, June 8, 2024, at simultaneous parties held at Signature and Abah Clubs in the state capital.
3. The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the arrest of two suspects, Ogujiofor Emeka and Desmond Chima, during a raid on a factory producing adulterated alcoholic drinks at Oko-Arin Market on Lagos Island. The arrests were confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin.
4. Over 18 Nigerian girls, aged 16 to 18, were rescued from human traffickers in a daring operation by local security guards in Ghana. The girls had been lured to Ghana with promises of a better life but were instead forced into prostitution.
5. Gunmen shot and killed popular politician Ejike Ukwueze in Enugu State. Ukwueze was reportedly killed on Friday night while driving in Neke Odenigbo, located in the Enugu East Local Government Area.
6. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu acknowledged that the past year has been challenging for the country. He stated that he has been working to overhaul and improve the financial system to bring prosperity and relief to Nigerians.

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), accused the opposition in Kano of distracting the government for the past year. Kwankwaso made this remark during the declaration of a State of Emergency on education in Kano State.
8. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, appealed to President Bola Tinubu to name two roads in Guzape District after Chinua Achebe and J. P. Clark. Wike made the request in Abuja on Saturday during the inauguration of Guzape Lot II Engineering Infrastructure by Tinubu to celebrate his one year in office.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State revealed that upon taking office on May 29, 2023, his administration found that over 4.7 million pupils in primary schools across the state were sitting on bare floors. Yusuf declared a state of emergency on education in Kano while speaking at the Open Arena, Kano Government House, highlighting the lack of instructional materials as a further issue.
10. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested 15 suspected internet fraudsters in separate operations in Abuja and Rivers State. The agency announced these arrests in statements posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.
