UK Declines Nigeria’s Request for Ekweremadu’s Transfer

The United Kingdom has declined a request by the Nigerian government to allow former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, to be transferred to Nigeria to complete his prison term.

NIGERIA NEWS 247 reports that Ekweremadu is currently serving his sentence in a UK correctional facility after being convicted in 2023 for conspiring to harvest the kidney of a young man.

He was handed a prison term of nine years and eight months in a widely publicized organ-trafficking case that attracted global attention.

With the UK government’s latest decision, Ekweremadu will remain in Britain to serve the remainder of his sentence.
