Umahi Accuses Okengwu and Winhomes of Lying About $250m Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Property

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has refuted claims by Stella Okengwu, CEO and Managing Director of Winhomes Global Services Limited, regarding her alleged $250 million investment in the Lagos–Calabar coastal highway project.

During a tour of the highway on Sunday, Umahi said a recent Federal High Court ruling dismissed Okengwu’s suit for lacking merit. He asserted that what she publicly described as a “residential development” is, in reality, only a gatehouse structure with no additional development on the site.

Umahi added that Okengwu had admitted in court filings that her firm had sold the land to third parties, contradicting her earlier claims. The court concluded that Okengwu and Winhomes lacked locus standi to file the case, as they no longer held any proprietary interest in the land, and failed to demonstrate a reasonable cause of action against the defendants.

“She has told several lies against the Minister of Works. She has been wild in her negative comments against the good intentions of the Renewed Hope administration in revolutionising road infrastructure nationwide. The court of law has exposed her claims as mendacious and unfounded,” Umahi said, describing her as “a troublemaker and false alarmist.”

The minister also announced that the first 47-kilometre section of the Lagos–Calabar coastal highway is scheduled to open to traffic in December 2025.
