The University of Jos chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced plans to embark on an indefinite strike action over the non-payment of its members’ June salaries.

According to a statement released on Thursday and signed by the branch chairman, Prof. Jurbe Molwus, the industrial action will commence at 12:00 a.m. on Friday, July 4, 2025, if the salaries are not paid by midnight on Thursday.

The decision, the union said, was taken following a resolution reached during its congress held on June 4, 2025.

“This is to request all members to abstain from lectures and statutory meetings if our salary for the month of June is not paid by 11:59 p.m.,” the statement read.

The union cited an existing directive from its National Executive Council (NEC), which authorizes branches to take local action when salaries remain unpaid beyond the third day of a new month.

Prof. Molwus reaffirmed that the congress had unanimously agreed to uphold this resolution, emphasizing that the strike would begin immediately if payment is not received.

He also urged all ASUU members at the University of Jos to fully comply with the directive and announced that the union’s strike monitoring team would be activated to ensure strict adherence.

As of press time, there has been no official response from the university management or the federal government regarding the union’s demands.
