Wike Pledges Continued Support for Gov Eno in Akwa Ibom, Urges Continued Unity
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, of his continued support to help him deliver on his mandate. Wike also called on the governor to keep praying for him, expressing admiration for Eno’s humility and leadership.
Speaking during the commissioning of the 15.13 km Ikot Otomo–Azumini Road in Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Wike commended Governor Eno for taking bold steps to drive development in the state, despite opposition from various quarters. He pledged to stand by such progressive decisions.
The minister praised the working relationship between Governor Eno and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, describing their collaboration as a positive force for the state’s development.
While offering advice, Wike encouraged the governor to continue showing respect to those who had supported him in the past, noting that doing so would only elevate his character.
“You’ve made the right choice to move Akwa Ibom forward, and I’ll continue to support you in that decision,” Wike said. “Keep respecting those who have been there for you—it doesn’t take anything away from you. You’re a humble leader, a man of God. Just keep praying for me, and I’ll keep supporting you. Politics, as I see it, is about mutual support: you help me, I help you. You push me, I push you. But above all, you are a good man.”
In his remarks, Governor Umo Eno thanked Wike for visiting the state to commission projects and praised his leadership in the FCT. He stressed the importance of unity beyond political affiliations, stating that cooperation is essential for development and for delivering democratic dividends to the people.
“This project underscores our commitment to completing what we start, no matter who initiated it,” Eno said. “Government is a continuum. What matters is finishing projects that benefit the people.”
The newly commissioned road includes over 3.5 km extending into Azumini in Abia State. Governor Eno acknowledged the support of Abia State Governor for the cross-border collaboration, noting that such synergy is vital for regional development.
He also emphasized fiscal responsibility, stating that his administration is executing projects without borrowing or leaving debt for future governments.
“We want to support the President. We want to support the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio. And in Akwa Ibom, we are united in that purpose,” he added.
