Wike Praises Tinubu’s Leadership Amid States’ N2 Trillion Monthly Fuel Subsidy Allocation
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, commended President Bola Tinubu’s courageous decision to remove the fuel subsidy, acknowledging that while the move initially sparked public outcry, economic conditions are now beginning to stabilize.
Speaking at the 2025 Innovate Africa Conference in Abuja, Wike said, “You may not be right, but you must take a decision and that’s what this present government is doing.”
He highlighted the challenge of the decision, noting that many would have hesitated to remove the subsidy, but emphasized the necessity of sacrifices for progress.
Wike also revealed a significant increase in federal allocations to states since the subsidy removal, stating that states now share about N2 trillion monthly—compared to previous amounts of just N10-15 billion per month.
“This is because of the removal of the fuel subsidy,” he added.
