Taraba SWAN Calls for Immortalization of Late Veteran Member

The Taraba State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of veteran sports journalist Jacob Zango in Kaduna State.

In a statement by the SWAN chairman in Taraba, Sani Suleiman, the association highlighted the significant impact Zango’s death has had on the sports community in Nigeria. Suleiman noted that Zango was highly respected and admired by his colleagues, athletes, and sports enthusiasts.

“His work not only documented the history of sports in Nigeria but also played a crucial role in the development of sports journalism in the country,” Suleiman stated. “Beyond his writings, he was a cornerstone of the community, renowned for his commitment to ethical journalism and his unwavering pursuit of excellence.”

Suleiman emphasized that Zango’s death has prompted reflection on the importance of upholding the high standards he set and continuing his legacy by mentoring and supporting young journalists. He expressed confidence that Zango’s legacy will live on, inspiring future generations of sports journalists in Nigeria.

He also called on the Nigerian government to consider honoring the late veteran journalist in recognition of his contributions to the field.

According to the statement, Zango passed away this week following a brief illness.
