Presidential aspirants under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have reportedly reached an agreement to fully back whoever emerges as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 elections.

One of the contenders, Rotimi Amaechi, confirmed this development in an interview with LEADERSHIP on Friday.

According to Nigeria News 247, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi have all declared their intentions to contest the presidency under the ADC platform. Despite speculation that the party may zone its presidential ticket to the North to boost Atiku’s chances against incumbent President Bola Tinubu, the ADC’s interim national chairman, Senator David Mark, has dismissed claims of any preferred candidate.

Senator Mark, who is also a former Senate President, assured party supporters that his leadership would guarantee “absolute transparency” throughout the primary process.

Amaechi, however, stressed the importance of clearly defining what constitutes a transparent primary to prevent possible manipulation.

“In principle, we have agreed that whoever emerges from a transparent primary will receive the full support of all aspirants,” he said. “But first, we need to sit down and agree on what ‘transparent’ truly means, because it’s easy for someone to hijack the process and still call it transparent.”
