Former Director-General of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and two-term federal lawmaker, Cyril Maduabum, has officially resigned from the PDP and joined the opposition coalition, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement announcing his departure, Maduabum expressed deep disappointment in the current state of the PDP, a party he said he once served with commitment and pride. He accused the party of straying from its founding ideals and falling under the control of self-serving individuals.

“The soul of the party I once served with pride has been hijacked by unscrupulous elements more interested in personal power grabs than in party discipline, internal democracy, or national interest,” Maduabum stated.

He described the PDP as a shadow of its former self, plagued by internal chaos, betrayal, and a systematic breakdown orchestrated by actors with no regard for its original principles.

Explaining his move to the ADC, Maduabum called the party “a beacon of hope for good governance, integrity, accountability, and inclusive politics.”

“After deep reflection, extensive consultations, and careful evaluation of the current political realities within the PDP, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect,” he said.

Maduabum joins a growing list of high-profile defections to the ADC, which is positioning itself as a unifying opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
