Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, dismissed calls for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to select him as his running mate in the 2027 presidential election.

A group known as Diri Angels (DA) urged Atiku Abubakar to consider Diri as his Vice-Presidential candidate, asserting that Atiku would likely be the PDP’s Presidential Candidate in 2027 and that pairing with Diri would strengthen his chances of defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In response, Governor Diri, through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, denounced the group as non-existent and accused it of attempting to cause disaffection. He described their suggestion as a “Greek gift” from political opportunists and urged it to be ignored.

Diri emphasized his reliance on divine guidance in his political career and reaffirmed his commitment to serving Bayelsa State. He assured residents of his focus on delivering democratic dividends and urged them to disregard attempts to distract him with such proposals.

“I am not swayed by such calls. In my political journey, I have always relied on God and not on political jobbers with devious intentions. The aim of those behind this act is to cause disaffection but the plot is dead on arrival as I’m not interested in such a Greek gift. I remain committed to the mandate given to me by the Bayelsa people and I’m single-mindedly focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to them. My administration will not be distracted by those who do not mean well for our state,” Diri stated.
