The South-West Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has distanced itself from the reported coalition, urging all party members to remain united and steadfast while supporting their leaders to address challenges at both zonal and national levels.

This position was outlined in a communiqué issued by the PDP’s Southwest Zonal Publicity Secretary, Sanya Atofarati, following a meeting of the South-West Caucus held on Friday in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The caucus reaffirmed its unwavering loyalty to the PDP, emphasizing its commitment to the party’s unity, stability, progress, and success across the zone and the nation. It commended Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, and other regional leaders for their relentless efforts to strengthen and grow the party as a leading political force in the South-West.

The Caucus assured members that the PDP in the South-West remains solid, calling on all organs and stakeholders to stay focused and work diligently towards the smooth conduct of the forthcoming National Convention, which aims to further reposition the party for future challenges.

“We fully support the National Working Committee’s (NWC) stance that our party remains open to collaborating with other well-meaning, like-minded citizens to rescue our nation from the stranglehold of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” the statement read.

The Caucus resolved to intensify efforts to secure victory for the PDP in the upcoming by-elections in Oyo and Ogun States, as well as the Local Government elections in Lagos State. It expressed confidence that the PDP will remain the party of choice in the South-West and across Nigeria, achieving resounding success in future elections.

In addition, the Caucus demanded the immediate release of the withheld Osun State Local Government Allocation, describing its withholding by the Federal Government as unconstitutional, unjustified, and a violation of the rights and welfare of the people of Osun State.

Lastly, the Caucus voiced deep concern over the worsening insecurity and economic hardship in the country under the APC administration. It reiterated Governor Makinde’s declaration that the 2027 general election would be a decisive contest between Nigerians and the APC, with Nigerians ultimately prevailing under the PDP’s banner.
