2027 Presidential Race an Elite Contest, Not About Nigerians – APC Chieftain Farouk Aliyu

A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Farouk Aliyu, has described the upcoming 2027 presidential election as an “elite contest,” dismissing the opposition’s efforts to unseat President Bola Tinubu as ineffective.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Monday, Aliyu downplayed the significance of the newly formed opposition coalition, which recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform for the 2027 general election.

According to Aliyu, most of the coalition’s leaders are former APC members who are merely disgruntled over internal party matters. “The coalition is merely a group of former APC members who have left the party,” he said. “They may not pose a threat to democracy, but they certainly don’t pose a threat to the APC either.”

He argued that the current political climate is markedly different from 2015, and that opposition unity alone will not be enough to oust the ruling party. “The coalescing of people against Tinubu and the APC will not succeed. This fight is not about Nigerians—it’s an elite contest,” he stated.

Nigeria News 247 reports that key opposition figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and disaffected APC members officially aligned last week under the ADC in a move aimed at challenging the APC’s grip on power in 2027.
