Adamawa PDP Chairman Denies Factional Split, Assures Party Unity Ahead of Ganye By-Election
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State, Ailyu Shehu, has dismissed rumours of a faction within the party, insisting that there is no division—only a group of aggrieved individuals.
Speaking at a press conference in Yola, Shehu emphasized that the PDP remains united and strong as it prepares for the upcoming by-election in Ganye State Constituency, scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for August 16, 2025.
“There is no breakaway faction in Adamawa PDP. What we have is just an association of aggrieved members, but their efforts will not divide the party,” he said.
Shehu acknowledged that disagreements are normal in any political party but criticized those he said were causing confusion. “Ironically, these aggrieved individuals have benefited the most from the PDP since 1998,” he added. “However, due to age and their unwillingness to make space for the younger generation, they now feel left out.”
Despite the internal challenges, Shehu expressed confidence in the PDP’s prospects for the by-election. The party has received primary election materials and started selling nomination forms to aspirants.
“We are ready, and our party enjoys strong popularity ahead of the upcoming election,” Shehu stated. “Adamawa has been a PDP state from inception to date, with the people trusting our leadership because of our record of development.”
He urged all members to remain united and collaborate for the party’s success.
