ADC Youth Group Warns Peter Obi Against Leaving Coalition Over Presidential Ticket
A youth group within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has cautioned former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against exiting the ADC coalition over concerns about the party’s 2027 presidential ticket. The group warned that such a move could severely damage his political reputation and alienate his supporters.
In a statement released Tuesday and signed by Comrade Abayomi Bello of the ADC Youth Vanguard, the group expressed concern over reports suggesting Obi may leave the coalition if he is not assured of the party’s nomination. The group questioned whether such reports were truly reflective of Obi’s position.
“We doubt that Mr. Tanko actually has Peter Obi’s mandate to say what he said,” the statement noted. “We believe Mr. Obi has earned the public’s respect as a principled leader who champions youth empowerment and national interest above personal ambition.”
The youth wing emphasized that leaving the coalition under such circumstances would contradict the values Obi has consistently projected. They also pointed out his history of switching political parties — from APGA to PDP, then to the Labour Party — and warned that another move could damage his credibility.
“Moving again may cause Nigerians to see him as just another politician in search of personal gain,” the statement said. “Coalition-building requires patience, sacrifice, and collective vision — not short-term positioning.”
The group urged Obi to remain within the coalition and play a leadership role in mentoring young members, contributing to policy direction, and helping build a sustainable political platform.
“True political legacies are forged through consistency and commitment. Exiting the coalition now could lead to political isolation and erode the trust of millions of young Nigerians who still believe in him,” the group concluded.
