Aisha Yesufu Condemns Edo Governor’s Threat to Peter Obi
Social critic and good governance advocate, Aisha Yesufu, has condemned Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo over his warning to Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi not to visit the state without prior permission.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Breakfast Show on Monday, Yesufu challenged the governor’s claim to authority over who can enter Edo State.
“What gives the governor the audacity to think he can grant security clearance to any Nigerian to visit Edo State? Edo is not his family estate,” she said.
Nigeria News 247 recalls that Governor Okpebholo had issued a stern warning to Obi, stating that his security might not be guaranteed should he enter the state without official approval.
Yesufu described this as a direct threat to Obi’s life and criticized the subsequent statement from the Edo State government that attempted to downplay the governor’s remarks.
“He said very clearly and loudly that your security will not be guaranteed if you come. Anything that happens to you, it’s on you. That is a threat. And to claim that it’s just about informing them when you’re coming and seeking security clearance is absurd,” she said.
She concluded by reaffirming that no governor has the right to restrict the free movement of Nigerians within the country.
