Moses Paul, popularly known as DrMo and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chairmanship candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the 2026 elections, has strongly cautioned Nigerians against selling their votes, warning that the practice is eroding democracy and compromising the nation’s future.

In a statement reflecting on the August 16, 2025, by-election, DrMo described Nigeria’s democracy as “bleeding,” lamenting that political power has been hijacked by money-driven actors while thuggery is often rewarded instead of being punished.

Citing Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, DrMo emphasized: “Nobody buys your vote or shoots his way into office and then goes to work for you.”

He likened the act of vote-selling to armed robbery, stressing that those who trade their votes for money become complicit in the systemic looting of public resources.

“Every time you sell your vote, you deny your children access to quality education, you deny your family life-saving healthcare, and you rob your community of clean water and basic infrastructure,” he stated. “This is the real cost of vote-selling.”

DrMo warned that the culture of vote-trading is akin to “firing bullets at the future of our society” and “driving nails into the coffin of good governance.” He maintained that democracy cannot thrive on the foundations of money and violence, but must rest on the conscience and integrity of the people.

Despite the challenges, he expressed hope that Nigeria’s democratic system can still be restored if citizens reject inducements and vote based on conscience.

“Hope is not lost. Democracy does not belong to money or violence; it belongs to the people,” he said. “If we stand firm, refuse to sell our future, and vote with conscience, we can restore dignity to our people.”

As he prepares to contest the 2026 AMAC chairmanship seat, DrMo urged Nigerians to treat their votes as powerful tools for change—not as commodities for sale.
