Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has clarified that his decision to join the opposition coalition was not motivated by the lack of a political appointment from President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Thursday, Amaechi dismissed claims that personal grievances influenced his political alignment.

“I never stole anything in politics. I don’t drive a Rolls-Royce. I’m not in opposition because Tinubu didn’t give me an appointment. I’m not interested in any appointments,” he stated firmly.

Amaechi also challenged anyone with allegations of corruption from his time in office to come forward. “If there’s anyone who says Amaechi deceived them, let them speak. If there was corruption during my tenure, let them bring the evidence. I’m waiting,” he added.

Amaechi was among several high-profile politicians who, on Wednesday in Abuja, officially unveiled the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the political platform for a new opposition coalition seeking to challenge the Tinubu-led administration.

This move follows the formal adoption of the ADC by the coalition on Tuesday as its party of choice ahead of the 2027 general elections.
