APC Loses Minister Badaru’s Polling Unit to PDP in Garki-Babura Bye-Election
The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday suffered a notable defeat at Polling Unit 001, Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School—where Minister of Defence and APC stalwart, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, cast his vote—in the ongoing Garki-Babura federal constituency bye-election.
In a surprising outcome, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured a clear lead at the polling unit, garnering 308 votes against APC’s 112.
The polling unit is located in Babura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, where voters turned out to elect a new representative for the Garki-Babura federal constituency.
Minister Badaru, the immediate past governor of the state, voted under heavy security presence but left the venue without speaking to the press.
According to Nigeria News 247, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted rerun and bye-elections in at least 12 states across the country on Saturday. However, the electoral process in some areas was marred by low voter turnout, incidents of violence, and alleged vote buying.
