The Imo State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Professor James Okoroma, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating the recent attack on former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Thursday, Okoroma described the incident as a deliberate act of political violence aimed at intimidating opposition figures—a development he warned poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s democratic stability.

According to him, the individuals who disrupted the event attended by Nasir El-Rufai were allegedly mobilized with financial incentives and transported in hired buses.

“From our independent investigations, this was clearly the handwork of the APC,” Okoroma claimed. “The APC is worried about the rising political influence of the African Democratic Congress.”

He further alleged that the attackers were paid and their logistics—buses, placards, and other protest materials—were funded by unknown sponsors within the ruling party.

“I was there. Buses were hired. Somebody paid for them. The placards were also paid for. This wasn’t spontaneous—it was coordinated,” he said.

Okoroma noted that this incident fits into a broader pattern of politically motivated attacks observed in other parts of the country. He cautioned that targeting El-Rufai, now regarded as a key figure within the growing ADC coalition, could have destabilizing effects on the nation.

He called on the APC-led federal government to shift its focus toward addressing pressing national issues such as poverty, economic decline, and decaying infrastructure, rather than allegedly resorting to political intimidation and violence.
