Asari-Dokubo Withdraws Support from Yoruba Politicians, Aligns with Northern Leaders
Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, former leader of the now-defunct Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, has announced he will no longer support Yoruba politicians, accusing them of betrayal against him and the Ijaw people.
In a video circulated on social media on Monday, Asari-Dokubo criticized Yoruba leaders for turning their backs despite the sacrifices made by the Ijaw in the name of southern solidarity.
“The Yorubas have betrayed us. After all we did, they turned their backs on us,” he said, reflecting on past elections and political battles where the Ijaw stood firm for the South but felt abandoned.
Expressing regret, he acknowledged the wisdom of his forefathers in forming alliances with the North and declared that the younger generation would continue that partnership.
“As of today, I will now work, work, work and form alliance with the North to crush out opposition,” Asari-Dokubo declared, citing recent political shifts and perceived disloyalty from the South-West as key factors in his decision.
