Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has signaled his intention to run for president in 2027, pledging to take a hard stance against corruption if elected.

Speaking in Hausa during a recent address to supporters—captured in a video shared on social media platform X—Atiku declared: “I swear to God, if elected, whoever steals or engages in any corruption-related activities, we will declare war against them and they must be punished.”

Atiku, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is now a prominent figure in the opposition coalition aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Though he has not formally announced his defection from the PDP, his active role in the new coalition suggests a shift in political allegiance.

The ADC coalition recently unveiled its interim leadership, naming former Senate President David Mark as Interim National Chairman and former Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola as Interim National Secretary, among other key appointments.

Atiku’s potential candidacy and alignment with the emerging coalition could reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
