Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Nigeria News 247, the announcement came after a closed-door meeting held Wednesday evening at the Government House in Asaba. Several top APC leaders were in attendance to receive the governor, marking a major political shift in the South-South region.

Speaking with Arise TV, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, stated that the move followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders and was made in the interest of Delta State’s long-term development.

Oborevwori, who won the 2023 gubernatorial election under the PDP, is now being viewed by political observers as making a strategic move ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His defection follows the circulation of a viral video that had fueled rumors about his political intentions. In the video, Oborevwori appeared alongside key APC members, prompting speculation online. At the time, his media team dismissed the footage as outdated and misleading.
