Coalition’s Emergence will make our Party Stronger Opposition Ahead of 2027 – Ondo ADC Chairman
The Caretaker Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ondo State, Wole Ademoyegun, has expressed confidence that the recent adoption of the party by key opposition figures will significantly bolster its political strength in the state and nationwide.
Speaking on Thursday, Ademoyegun described the development as a major boost for democratic consolidation and the emergence of a credible opposition platform. He emphasized the importance of strong opposition for the political and developmental progress of both Ondo State and Nigeria at large.
On Wednesday, a coalition of prominent political leaders—including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Senate President David Mark—formally adopted the ADC as the platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s reelection bid in 2027.
In Ondo State, notable political figures such as former PDP State Chairman Tola Alabere, former Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, and 2024 NNPP governorship candidate Gbenga Edema have also aligned with the coalition.
Ademoyegun affirmed the ADC’s commitment to reclaiming its place as a dominant force in Ondo politics, stating, “Our capability to provide credible opposition remains steadfast, and we will work collaboratively to build a party that upholds the values of transparency, accountability, and good governance—qualities currently in short supply in our national landscape.”
Also speaking, the party’s 2024 governorship candidate in Ondo State, Myson Nejo, reaffirmed ADC’s dedication to internal democracy, inclusiveness, and respect for all members.
He noted that the party’s third-place finish in the November 16, 2024 gubernatorial election demonstrated its growing relevance and grassroots support.
“ADC will serve as a platform where every voice matters. We are prioritizing democratic ethics and ensuring that every member is treated with dignity and respect,” Nejo said.
Both leaders expressed optimism that the party, with its renewed coalition support, is now better positioned to challenge the status quo and provide an alternative for Nigerians seeking meaningful change in 2027.
