Datti Baba-Ahmed Reveals He Predicted Nasir El-Rufai’s Role in Opposition Coalition Two Years Ago
Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed disclosed on Arise TV’s Prime Time that he foresaw ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s current influential role in the opposition coalition as far back as two years ago.
Baba-Ahmed shared that he communicated this prediction with former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi. He emphasized his willingness to support whoever emerges as the coalition’s presidential candidate, provided the primary election is transparent and credible.
He stated, “I need to see a very clean and transparent primary… If it happens, I will support the candidate, and it doesn’t have to be Obi.”
Recalling his political journey, Baba-Ahmed said he considered contesting the governorship in 2023 to prevent a northern presidential candidate but withdrew after witnessing the primary election process. Shortly after, Peter Obi also withdrew from the PDP.
He added, “If a candidate emerges through acceptable practices, I will work with that person.”
Baba-Ahmed reiterated his prediction that El-Rufai would join the coalition and play the significant role he holds today.
