Delta State Police Commissioner Orders Personnel Deployment, Restricts Movement Ahead of LG Poll
Ahead of the upcoming Delta State local government elections scheduled for Saturday, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, has ordered a significant deployment of personnel across the state to ensure a smooth and orderly election process.
This directive was communicated in a statement issued by the Command’s Spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, on Thursday in Asaba, the state capital.
In his statement, Olufemi emphasized, “The Commissioner of Police Delta State CP Abaniwonda Olufemi has ordered extensive deployment across the state to facilitate the exercise of voting rights by electorates in Delta State.”
“The Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has deployed extensively to all polling units, RACs, collation centers, and DSIEC offices to ensure a seamless process and to safeguard voters and DSIEC officials.
“Marine Police units have also been deployed to secure the waterways to ensure peace during the election.”
“To facilitate this, there will be a restriction on vehicular movement from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday. Only officials on emergency and essential duties, including accredited election monitors and observers, will be permitted to move during this period.
“Students taking the NABTEB examinations are exempt from this movement restriction.
“While we regret any inconveniences caused, the public is urged to comply with these instructions. Anyone found violating these regulations will face the full consequences of the law.
“The ban on VIP escorts during the election will also be strictly enforced. VIPs are advised not to travel with their security details on Election Day, as any officer found in contravention will be apprehended and penalized accordingly.”
Olufemi further cautioned non-state actors, such as vigilantes, anti-cult volunteers, and hunters, to abstain from involvement in the electoral process, warning of decisive action against any interference.
The commissioner concluded by urging all residents to uphold the law, assuring them of the police force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property during this critical electoral period.
