Don’t Distract Tinubu With 2027 Politics, Osun APC Chieftain Warns
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged political leaders to refrain from distracting President Bola Tinubu with early discussions about the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking with journalists on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye emphasized the need for political actors to focus on supporting the President as he continues to tackle critical national issues.
According to the former lawmaker, President Tinubu inherited a troubled economy characterized by heavy debt, a volatile Naira, and a burdensome fuel subsidy regime. However, he noted that, midway through his administration, Tinubu’s technocratic approach had begun to restore hope among Nigerians.
“Key reforms such as the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the exchange rates are already yielding positive results,” Oyintiloye stated.
He expressed concern over what he described as premature political maneuvering by some individuals, warning that such distractions could undermine the President’s efforts to stabilize the economy and address security and infrastructure challenges.
“Some people are already scheming for the Vice Presidency when the President is dealing with urgent national issues,” he said. “This kind of political opportunism is not only unnecessary but harmful to the government’s development agenda.”
Oyintiloye described the early power tussle as “nauseating,” adding that with more than a year and a half to the next election, there should be greater focus on governance.
“The President needs our collective support, not a premature clamour for positions,” he said. “Now is the time for solidarity, not scheming. Let the President work.”
