Dumebi Kachikwu Says ADC Coalition Is Being Packaged for Atiku, Peter Obi Looking Elsewhere
Dumebi Kachikwu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) 2023 presidential candidate, has claimed that the ADC-led coalition is being shaped primarily to benefit former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Kachikwu said this realization has led aspirants like Peter Obi and others to explore alternative political options.
“It’s now clear that the whole ADC structure is being packaged for Atiku Abubakar,” he stated. “Peter Obi and other presidential hopefuls understand this and are looking elsewhere.”
Peter Obi, who has not officially left the Labour Party, recently affirmed in an interview that he remains a member of the party. A faction of the Labour Party loyal to Obi, led by Usman Nenadi, denied any involvement in the ADC-led coalition. Darlington Nwokocha, the faction’s Interim National Secretary, reiterated on Friday that the Labour Party is not part of the coalition.
Obi’s declaration to run for president in 2027 has further cast doubt on the durability of the coalition.
Kachikwu vowed to reclaim the ADC and asserted, “The ADC will never be the vehicle for personal ambition.” Asked about his ability to manage the internal disputes, he added confidently, “The storm has already been contained.”
