The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State is revamping its strategies to regain its winning stance ahead of future elections.

The party announced ongoing consultations to reconcile with aggrieved members who had previously left. Steve Oruruo, the newly appointed Caretaker Committee chairman, made this statement on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to the state Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Willie Etim, in Abakiliki.

Oruruo emphasized that the National Working Committee (NWC) is committed to revitalizing and repositioning the PDP in Ebonyi, which led to the establishment of the new leadership.

“The leadership of the country requires a closer reassessment. To achieve best practices and qualitative governance that fosters productivity in politics, we need quality personnel. The PDP, from the national body, is experiencing a sense of rebirth and revival, and Ebonyi is a key focus.

“We have faced disagreements among party stakeholders, leading to factions. The new leadership aims to resolve these issues and strengthen the party. We are dedicated to creating an environment of fairness, adherence to the rule of law, and the party’s principles,” Oruruo stated.

Oruruo also clarified to journalists that former Senate President and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, remains with the PDP, despite rumors of his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Democracy offers options, and political parties serve as conduits for pursuing aspirations. People choose parties where they believe they will succeed. While it’s an individual’s decision to switch parties, I can confirm that as of today, Senator Anyim Pius has not joined the APC. We should base our actions on verified information,” he concluded.
