Reinstated Edo Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu has filed a N50 billion defamation and contempt of court suit against the State Government, Commissioner for Communication and Orientation Chris Nehikhare, and Special Adviser on Media Projects Crusoe Osagie.

Shaibu announced this to the press following his reinstatement by the Federal High Court in Abuja. He stated that the court’s decision was declarative and must be implemented, restraining the state government and its agents from blocking him from fulfilling his duties.

Shaibu criticized Nehikhare and Osagie for allegedly disregarding the court’s ruling, suggesting they had not read the judgment thoroughly. He emphasized that the reinstatement was immediate and should be enforced before any appeals or stays could be considered.

He also mentioned that the suit for defamation would be served next week. Additionally, Shaibu accused Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki of orchestrating a recent gun attack on him, which resulted in the death of Inspector Akor Onuh. Shaibu denied involvement in any attack and expressed surprise at the violence, suggesting it was a targeted assassination attempt by the governor, who had previously threatened him.
