Edo Guber: Ex-APC Vice Chairman Warns of More Defections
The immediate past Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Francis Inegbineki, has warned of an impending “tsunami” of defections from the party as more members prepare to leave.
During a press conference in Benin City, Inegbineki refuted rumors that he had reconsidered his resignation from the party. Inegbineki, who was the party’s senatorial candidate in the 2015 general election, resigned from the APC last Friday.
He stated that his decision remains firm and predicted that many others would follow suit. “I stand by my resignation from the APC and I cease to be a member,” he declared. “A tsunami will soon happen in APC. I am only leading the way.”
Inegbineki also addressed a misleading social media post that suggested he had retracted his resignation after a visit from Senator Monday Okpebholo, the APC governorship candidate. “Yes, it is true that Senator Monday Okpebholo visited me after I turned in my resignation letter because they know that an Iroko has fallen,” he said.
His resignation comes just three months before the September 21 governorship election in Edo State. In his resignation letter dated June 7, 2024, and addressed to the ward 9 chairman of APC in Esan Central Local Government Area, Inegbineki cited recent developments within the local and state chapters of the party that conflicted with his core principles and values, prompting a reevaluation of his political future in Edo State.
