Ahead of the local government elections on September 21 in Enugu State, Governor Peter Mbah has called on voters to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to sustain his administration’s development initiatives.

Speaking at the PDP campaign’s grand finale at Okpara Square, Enugu, on Wednesday, Mbah emphasized the importance of the electorate’s support. “When we say power to the people in PDP, we recognize where power lies. You’ve entrusted your mandate to those ready to make a difference,” he said.

He highlighted that his administration is currently working on over 1,000 projects statewide, ensuring that the mandate was not given to those experimenting with the state’s future. He detailed plans to build 260 Smart Green Schools and 260 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres in various wards, emphasizing that the aim is to ensure quality education for every child and the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality. According to Mbah, this will guarantee that no child in Enugu State will face poverty in the next 10 to 15 years.

The governor also revealed that over a billion naira is being invested in every ward, generating wealth and creating jobs. He noted that the focus is on sustainable solutions like employment rather than temporary handouts.

Mbah further explained that the PDP carefully selected credible candidates for the council elections, as rural communities face the most developmental challenges. “If we feel the impact of PDP governance at the state level, we must extend it to the grassroots. Our weakest points are our rural areas,” he said, urging voters to back candidates with proven track records and integrity.

He encouraged citizens to turn out in large numbers for the election, warning against complacency. “It’s not a foregone conclusion; you must come out and vote. The candidates we are presenting will join us in consolidating our progress,” Mbah assured.

PDP Enugu State Chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, echoed the governor’s sentiments, noting that the party had campaigned across all local government areas while opposition parties had not been visible. He urged supporters to vote in large numbers to send a strong message.

Other party leaders, including Speaker Hon. Uchenna Ugwu, Senate Minority Whip Senator Osita Ngwu, and others, praised the governor’s numerous achievements over the past 15 months, stating that these accomplishments have already secured victory for the party.

Hon. Obioara Obeagu, the party’s chairmanship candidate in Isi-Uzo LGA, also remarked that the governor’s projects had effectively silenced opposition.
