Ex-Plateau PDP Guber Aspirant, Gen. John Sura (Rtd), Resigns from party
A former governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Brigadier General John Sura (Rtd), has officially resigned from the party.
Gen. Sura, who contested in the 2023 PDP primaries that produced Governor Caleb Mutfwang as the party’s flag bearer, made the announcement via a Facebook post addressed to his supporters.
In his statement, Sura said he felt a moral responsibility to inform his political family — the ‘Sura Club’ and the ‘Liberation Family’ — and promised to convene a meeting soon to explain the reasons behind his decision.
“It has become imperative that I address you directly as my compatriots because you have been there with me since the early days when I joined politics and ran for the 2023 gubernatorial elections till today,” he wrote.
He noted that while some of his supporters had already been briefed privately, a collective discussion would soon be held to determine the way forward.
Gen. Sura’s exit adds to the growing list of PDP defections in Plateau State. Last month, Chief Letep Dabang, former Director-General of the Mutfwang/Piyo Campaign Organization, also dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
