Former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and rein in the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike. This call comes in light of renewed threats of impeachment against Governor Siminalayi Fubara by members of the State Assembly, led by Marthin Amaewhule.
Eze, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, urged Tinubu to “prevail on Wike to rein in the excesses of the 27 lawmakers,” whom he described as “the minister’s foot soldiers.”
He emphasized the necessity for Tinubu to “call Wike to order to prevent a perceived breakdown of democratic institutions by the lawmakers,” whom he alleges “are taking orders and directives from the Minister.”
Governor Fubara recently expressed frustration over what he perceives as disrespect from some Local Government chairmen in the state, amidst his ongoing feud with the Federal Capital Territory Minister.
Eze’s statement comes amidst a political crisis and power struggle between the governor and his predecessor, with some local government chairmen and a majority of the state assembly members distancing themselves from Fubara’s administration and aligning with the minister.
Eze, in his statement, criticized the lawmakers’ impeachment threats against the governor, stating that there is no evidence of any wrongdoing by Fubara to warrant such drastic action.
He urged Governor Fubara to remain focused on delivering democratic dividends to the people of Rivers State and not be deterred by detractors aiming to hinder good governance efforts.
