FCT Council poll: Moses Paul Emerges ADC Chairmanship Candidate for AMAC
Dr. Moses Paul, popularly known as Dr. Mo, has been officially declared the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Chairmanship candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) ahead of the forthcoming local government elections.
Speaking at the ADC Secretariat in Area 2, Garki, Abuja, where he was formally presented to party members and supporters, Dr. Paul pledged to usher in a new era of grassroots-driven governance in Nigeria’s most prominent municipal council.
“I am not here because of political godfathers. I am not here to warm a seat. I am here because AMAC is broken, and together, we must fix it,” he said to loud applause from a crowd that included civil society groups, youth leaders, and party stakeholders.
Dr. Paul’s candidacy follows extensive consultations across the council’s wards—from Karu to Kabusa, and Jikwoyi to Garki—during which he positioned himself as a reform-minded leader focused on community development and inclusive governance.
In his acceptance speech, titled “The Mandate of the People, The Moment for Change,” he criticized years of poor governance in AMAC, pointing to the decline of essential public services such as schools, healthcare centres, and markets.
“The wait is over. This is not just another campaign. This is a movement of conscience, a mission of hope, and a moment of truth for AMAC,” Dr. Paul declared.
He outlined a bold reform agenda that includes the revitalization of public primary schools and the establishment of skill acquisition centres in every ward—initiatives he described as key to empowering residents and restoring dignity to local governance.
Calling for active civic participation, Dr. Paul urged young people, women, and elders across AMAC to get involved in the political process by registering, voting, and defending their votes. He also challenged his political opponents to focus on ideas rather than insults.
“Let’s debate policies, not spread fear. Let the people decide freely,” he said, calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure neutrality and urging civil society organizations and the media to closely monitor the process.
“This is not politics as usual. This is a referendum on neglect. And come election day, we will answer loud and clear,” he stated.
Dr. Paul expressed gratitude to the ADC leadership for their confidence in his candidacy and reaffirmed his commitment to transparent, people-centered governance.
“Let it be said that AMAC has risen—not because of one man, but because the people chose to believe again,” he concluded.
