Flooding: Rhodes-Vivour Criticizes Lagos Govt for Lack of Emergency Plan
The Labour Party’s Lagos State governorship candidate in the 2023 general election, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has criticized the Lagos State Government for its lack of proactive flood management.
In an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, monitored by NIGERIA NEWS 247, Rhodes-Vivour commented on the recent flooding in Lagos, which followed heavy rainfall and severely impacted the commercial capital.
Rhodes-Vivour expressed disappointment with the state government’s flood and disaster management efforts, urging them to implement wetland protection policies to better handle and mitigate the effects of annual floods.
“What is more painful to me is that I see a government that is very active and in your face when it comes to demolition, but when it comes to flooding, you don’t see any emergency response or protocol.
“We are not seeing men on the ground. We are not seeing early intelligence being provided, such as ‘avoid these routes.’ There were no diversions.
“I don’t feel a sense of ‘I told you so.’ Anyone who loves Lagos and has looked at its history would see these things coming well before they happen,” he stated.
