Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said that while the party remains open to welcoming back Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, such a return would only be possible under strict adherence to APC’s constitution.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, Ganduje emphasized that the APC does not offer special privileges to returning members, regardless of their political stature. He stressed that politicians who left the party must be prepared to face the political consequences of their past decisions.

Recent reports had hinted at Kwankwaso’s possible return to the APC, suggesting he had reached out to the party’s current National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda. However, Kwankwaso has since dismissed the claims as unfounded.

Reacting to the speculation, Ganduje remarked that any such move would amount to “licking his vomit,” a Hausa idiom implying that Kwankwaso would need to acknowledge his past errors before being considered for reintegration into the party.

Addressing the APC’s situation in Kano State, Ganduje confirmed that internal disputes had been resolved. He noted that a recent stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja reviewed the party’s performance in the 2023 elections and reaffirmed strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He also refuted claims of any rift between him and the president, asserting that their relationship remains cordial. Ganduje concluded by expressing confidence that the APC would work diligently to reclaim Kano State in the 2027 general elections.
