Gov. Otu Pledges Recovery of Illegally Taken State Assets, Inaugurates Asset Recovery Committees
Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has vowed to recover all movable and immovable state properties unlawfully taken by former officials, corporate entities, or individuals. Over the past two years, his administration has reclaimed heavy-duty construction equipment, numerous landed properties, and institutional estates in Ogoja and Calabar.
Two months ago, the governor successfully recovered equipment hidden in the hometown of his predecessor, Prof. Ben Ayade. During a recent State Executive Council meeting, Governor Otu inaugurated Asset Recovery Committees across all 18 local government areas to intensify efforts in retrieving lost assets.
He also announced plans to conduct a state-wide assets audit and tour the three senatorial districts to explain the rationale behind the clampdown on dignitaries regarding state property.
A communiqué signed by Commissioner for Information Dr. Erasmus Ekpang highlighted the governor’s commitment to the “People First” mantra. The governor plans to hold three special town hall meetings in the senatorial districts to engage residents and align future projects with community needs.
Furthermore, the government will launch a state-wide operation to close illegal and non-accredited schools to uphold educational standards and address the rising number of unauthorized institutions.
