Governor Otu: ‘Tinubu Orders Us to Secure Edo for APC’

The South-South coordinator of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Bassey Otu, revealed that President Bola Tinubu has tasked him with reclaiming Edo State from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

During the APC South-South conference in Calabar, Cross River’s capital, Otu mentioned that he has been the lone APC governor in the region but anticipates that another APC governor will join him in Edo State by September 2024.

“This meeting is significant to me personally. Even the Almighty God dislikes loneliness. I understand our president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and our party leader’s intention. He believes it’s not good for Governor Otu of Cross River to be alone, so we should add more states to the APC fold to strengthen our political presence in the zone.

“We are here to turn the President’s vision into reality and meet his expectations. The President can be confident that Edo State will not withstand our strategic approach, encapsulated in the Renewed Hope and People’s First agenda. If we achieved it in Imo State, we can replicate it in Edo State,” Otu stated.

Governor Otu criticized the PDP, referring to it as a ‘kwashiorkor’ party that once dominated Cross River State, and noted how people doubted the opposition’s ability to defeat them.

“But today, the story has changed. Freedom is felt across every corner of Cross River State. Although times are tough, they are tough for a purpose, and we believe we are genuinely progressing to the next level,” he added.

Otu also emphasized the importance of unity among APC stakeholders in the region and advocated for significant national appointments for party members in the area, arguing that those who contribute should be rewarded.

“We seek numerous appointments for our people from now on. Those who work diligently deserve recognition, and states without governors should receive special consideration to bolster their strength,” he concluded.
