Hon. Leke Abejide, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) member representing Yagba East/West & Mopa-Muro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has declared himself the sole current leader of the ADC.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Abejide criticized the recent opposition coalition under the ADC platform, saying new entrants into the party are acting as though they own it—without acknowledging long-standing members who have sustained the party over the years.

“What I have against the coalition is the way they came in,” he said. “If they had come with respect for the existing structure and the growth of the party, it would have been a different matter. But they are taking charge as if they’ve been in the party forever.”

Abejide emphasized that while new members are welcome, they must recognize and work with those who have built the party’s foundation.

He cited events in his home state of Kogi as an example, where he was bypassed in key party decisions. “They said they’re holding a meeting at the leader’s house—who is the leader? I’m the leader of the ADC in Kogi State. I’m also the only elected ADC member in the National Assembly nationwide.”

He noted his long-standing commitment to the ADC since 2018, including two successful terms in the House of Representatives, and credited himself for the party’s survival and relevance in his region. “If I had decamped like others, perhaps the party would have been deregistered by now,” he added.
