The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to former presidential candidate Peter Obi, demanding his resignation from the party after he joined the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement signed by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the group condemned the coalition as a gathering of “power mongers” with self-serving interests, dismissing the ‘New Nigeria is Possible’ slogan as a facade. Ifoh accused the coalition members of being “old, recycled, desperate, and frustrated politicians” responsible for Nigeria’s mismanagement.

The faction warned that any Labour Party member involved in the coalition must formally resign within 48 hours, stressing that the party does not tolerate “dual agenda” or divided loyalties. Ifoh also emphasized Labour Party’s commitment to representing Nigeria’s youth, who seek a new order free from “gerontocrats” and opportunistic politicians.

The statement reaffirmed Labour Party’s resolve to lead the country towards the “New Nigeria” envisioned by its youthful base ahead of upcoming elections.
