Kaduna PDP Dismisses Defection Rumours, Reaffirms Unity Ahead of Bye-Elections
The Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied reports of mass defections from the party, affirming that its membership remains loyal and united.
This was contained in a communiqué issued by the state party chairman, Edward Percy Masha, following an expanded caucus meeting held in Kaduna. According to the statement, “The membership of the party is still intact, and they remain loyal to the party’s leadership and ideals.”
The meeting, attended by key stakeholders including serving and former lawmakers, local government party chairmen, youth and women leaders, and representatives from all three senatorial zones, reaffirmed the party’s readiness to reclaim power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both state and federal levels.
Rejecting speculations that some leaders were planning to abandon the PDP, the caucus stated that such rumours are baseless. Instead, they pledged full support for the party’s national leadership, including the Board of Trustees and the PDP Governors’ Forum, and welcomed ongoing efforts to organize a national elective convention aimed at repositioning the party for 2027.
The Kaduna PDP also backed the potential formation of strategic alliances being explored by the party’s emerging national leadership after the proposed convention—moves they believe will be instrumental in dislodging the APC from power.
With three bye-elections approaching in the state, the party assured it is united, focused, and committed to ensuring the success of its candidates. The caucus emphasized strengthening grassroots structures to counter the APC’s influence, which they described as rooted in “woeful governance failures” across Kaduna.
The PDP’s latest position reflects a broader strategy to consolidate internal ranks, eliminate dissent, and present a cohesive front in the face of upcoming political contests.
