Labour Party Accuses APC of Using State Resources to Undermine Opposition
The Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of weaponizing state resources to create discord and weaken rival political parties.
Usman made the remarks during the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Global Award and Dinner Night held in Abuja, urging opposition coalition partners to make necessary sacrifices to thwart President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
She acknowledged that the APC has employed state institutions to intimidate, harass, and threaten opposition members but emphasized that unity among opposition parties remains crucial for success.
Since the APC came to power, there has been a deliberate campaign to undermine opposition forces through tactics such as infiltration, co-optation, harassment, intimidation, and judicial manipulation, Usman explained.
“The ruling party has become adept not only at consolidating power but at weakening every form of challenge to it. This is not democracy—it is domination masked as governance,” she said.
Usman further argued that the APC’s professed commitment to democratic values is undermined by its efforts to destabilize opposition parties like the Labour Party.
Highlighting the importance of dissent in a healthy democracy, she called on opposition leaders to rise above personal ambitions and divisions, focusing instead on offering Nigerians credible alternatives.
Represented at the event by her Senior Special Adviser on Media, Ken Eluma Asogwa, Usman also admitted that internal challenges within the opposition have contributed to its fragility.
“While external interference from the APC has played a role, it is not the only culprit. Personal ambition, greed, and internal divisions have made us vulnerable. No amount of external sabotage can succeed without internal decay,” she stated.
