Obi Criticizes Tinubu for Misleading Nigerians with Incorrect Unemployment Statistics

The former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for failing to fulfill his campaign promises.

In a recent post on his Facebook page, Obi recalled Tinubu’s November 2022 campaign remarks in Delta State, where the then-APC candidate targeted him indirectly by stating, “Na statistics we go chop, all I want is to put food on the table of Nigerians.” Tinubu emphasized that practical results mattered more than mere numbers—a message that resonated with many Nigerians tired of empty promises and desperate for solutions to poverty and food insecurity.

However, two years into Tinubu’s four-year term, Obi highlighted a contrasting reality: Nigeria has become one of the hungriest nations globally, with millions struggling to secure their next meal. The promise to “put food on the table” remains unfulfilled as economic hardships worsen. Meanwhile, the government appears more focused on presenting favorable statistics—such as revised unemployment figures, inflation rates, and GDP rebasing—rather than addressing the root causes affecting ordinary Nigerians.

Obi stressed that effective governance is not complicated or accidental. It requires genuine commitment, integrity, competence, capacity, and, most importantly, compassion for the people. True progress demands moving beyond manipulated numbers to deliver real improvements in citizens’ lives. As Nigeria navigates these challenging times, he urged for honest and empathetic policies to restore hope and provide meaningful relief to millions struggling to survive.
