Former Imo State Governor and ex-Senator, Rochas Okorocha, has dismissed claims circulating on social media suggesting that he intends to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling the reports baseless and fabricated.

Reacting through a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha refuted the viral quote in which he allegedly described the APC as a party “desperate to hijack power.” He insisted he never made such remarks.

“Almost eight years after leaving office as Executive Governor of Imo State, and years after serving as Senator for Imo West, those with a phobia of Rochas Okorocha still cannot sleep with both eyes closed,” the statement read.

“For days now, they have circulated a fake story falsely quoting me as saying: ‘APC is no longer a political party but a party desperate to hijack power at all costs. I am at the corner looking at them — Senator Rochas Okorocha.’”

He questioned the logic behind such claims, noting that the APC has held federal power since 2015 and remains the ruling party. “How can anyone say the APC is trying to hijack power? What power again?” he asked.

Okorocha also reminded critics of his central role in the party’s formation. He was the only sitting governor from the South-East who joined the APC during its inception, a decision that drew criticism and posed a risk to his 2015 re-election bid.

Despite the skepticism at the time, Okorocha remained committed and was later unanimously chosen by fellow governors as the pioneer Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum—a position he used to help solidify the party’s influence nationwide.

“If Okorocha has any concerns about the party, he would address them publicly and responsibly—not through poorly written posts on social media,” the statement emphasized.

Okorocha reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and urged the public to disregard the misleading reports, describing them as attempts by political detractors to undermine his influence.
